Sheffield United and Leeds are vying for the signature of Everton defender Ben Godfrey but could now be beaten to the punch by Genoa.
Both the Blades and the West Yorkshire club are trying to sign Godfrey, who could be on his way out of Everton this month.
Godfrey is among a number of players Sheffield United boss Chris Wilder is looking at as he looks to strengthen before next week’s deadline.
However, according to Fabrizio Romano, Italian side Genoa could now throw a spanner in the works.
Genoa could beat Leeds and Sheffield United to Ben Godfrey
Taking to X on social media to share the news, Romano has said that Genoa could now be in the mix to land Godfrey as well.
The Italian side have already signed Djed Spence this month and are looking to England once more to add to their ranks.

According to Romano, the links between Everton’s prospective new owners, 777 Partners, means a deal for Godfrey to sign for Genoa is a realistic possibility.
However, the journalist does say a number of other clubs are keen on the defender, which is likely to include United and Leeds.
AC Milan are also thought to be keen on Godfrey as well.
The Blades, meanwhile, are hoping to announce the signing of Ivo Grbic in the next 24 hours.
The Croatian stopper is in England ready to complete medicals and sign for around £2m.
Chris Wilder is also pushing for Mason Holgate, while Nottingham Forest’s Joe Worrall remains a target as well for the Blades boss.
Anel Ahmedhodzic could also leave the club, with Napoli among the teams keen.
