Champions League club seriously considering bid for Sheff Utd star; he’s considered the first option

Sheffield United could face increased pressure to keep hold of Anel Ahmedhodzic, with Napoli now considering a bid for the Bosnian.

Ahmedhodzic has been a key player for United ever since he signed. The 24-year-old starred last season as United won promotion to the top flight, scoring a number of crucial goals along the way.

The Bosnian has not quite been the same this season, with injuries and a bout of glandular fever possibly taking their toll. However, he did score in the recent game against Luton and has been given the captains armband by Chris Wilder.

However, reports this week have suggested Ahmedhodzic is the subject of interest from Napoli.

And according to reports from Italy, a bid from the Serie A side could now be on its way.

Napoli put Anel Ahmedhodzic top of their list

According to Tuttomercatoweb, Napoli are pushing hard to try and sign a new centre-back and United star Ahmedhodzic is considered one of the top options.

The report claims that there is an increasing possibility that the Naples club make a move for the Blades defender. Indeed, he’s mentioned as one of the ‘first options’ for the Italian club.

There are other names being considered by Napoli as well, though.

Arthur Theatre is the other player being considered alongside Ahmedhodzic.

Only big money should tempt United

It would be quite ridiculous if after going up, United sold their three best players.

Losing Sander Berge and Iliman Ndiaye in the summer was a big blow in itself but to now lose Ahmedhodzic halfway through the season would sting as well.

Realistically, we know Anel’s value is probably as high as it’s going to be. In that case, if a bid of around £15-20m comes in, we can’t really say no.

But it’s just another example of us going nowhere as a club, despite having three years from five in the top flight of English football.

Make no mistake, losing Anel now would be a blow. Quite where people think we are signing an adequate replacement with the budget we have, is a mystery.
