First-Team Squad

Sheffield United’s squad of 31 players has been built for the 2022/23 Championship season under manager Paul Heckingbottom. The Blades’ team features four goalkeepers, 13 defenders, eight midfielders and six forwards, including any players who are currently away from Bramall Lane on loan.

Sheffield United goalkeepers

Adam Davies

Sheffield United signed Adam Davies from Stoke City for their first-team squad in January 2022. The Wales goalkeeper later extended his contract until June 2024 and provides valuable depth in the net.

Wes Foderingham

Sheffield United took advantage of Wes Foderingham leaving Rangers as a free agent to bolster their first-team squad in 2020. The experienced shot-stopper has been an essential player since 2021/22.

Jake Eastwood (on loan to Rochdale)

Jake Eastwood emerged from Sheffield United’s academy to sign his first professional deal in 2016. The goalkeeper joined the Blades aged 10 and has since enjoyed loans to Sheffield FC, Gainsborough, Mickleover, Chesterfield, Scunthorpe, Kilmarnock, Grimsby, Portsmouth, Ross County and Rochdale.

Jordan Amissah (on loan to Burton Albion)

Jordan Amissah moved to Bramall Lane to join Sheffield United’s academy in 2018 after three years at Borussia Dortmund. The ex-Schalke talent has since risen through the ranks to reach the first-team fold in South Yorkshire. He has also enjoyed loans to Guiseley, Spennymoor Town and Burton Albion.

Sheffield United defenders

George Baldock

George Baldock is one of the longest-serving players in Sheffield United’s first-team squad. The right-back joined the Blades in 2017 and has gone on to record more than 200 appearances with the club.

Enda Stevens

Sheffield United signed another of the longest-serving players in the Blades’ first-team squad in 2017 with Enda Stevens. The Irishman has amassed more than 199 appearances since leaving Portsmouth.

Jack O’Connell

Few players have been in Sheffield United’s first-team squad for longer than Jack O’Connell. He left Brentford for the Blades in 2016 and made over 175 outings before two operations on a knee injury.

Chris Basham

A modern-day Sheffield United legend moved to Bramall Lane in 2014 as Chris Basham arrived from Blackpool. The defender has since played more than 380 times and helped the Blades seal promotion from League One into the Championship and from the Championship into the Premier League twice.

John Egan

Sheffield United broke their at-the-time club record to sign John Egan for £4m in 2018. The defender was Brentford’s captain and has proven to be money well spent having played more than 210 games.

Max Lowe

Sheffield United spent £3.5m to sign Max Lowe from Derby in 2020 to offer competition at full-back in the Premier League. But he would not become an established presence until the 2022/23 season.

Anel Ahmedhodzic

Sheffield United spent £3m to bolster their backline with Anel Ahmedhodzic in 2022. The ex-Malmo ace and Bosnia international immediately established himself as an important player at Bramall Lane.

Jack Robinson

Nottingham Forest let Jack Robinson get a mid-season move to Sheffield United in January 2020. But a flurry of injuries since transferring to Bramall Lane have restricted the defender’s availability since.

Jayden Bogle

Sheffield United snapped up Jayden Bogle in a double deal from Derby with Max Lowe in 2020. The right-back has since proven himself as a valuable squad player and often starts when consistently fit.

Ciaran Clark (on loan from Newcastle United)

Newcastle United loaned Ciaran Clark to Sheffield United for the 2022/23 season after falling out of favour at St James’ Park. But injuries and managerial preference have limited the Irishman’s fixtures.

Rhys Norrington-Davies

Sheffield United raided Swansea City’s youth setup for Rhys Norrington-Davies in 2017. The full-back has since enjoyed loan spells with Barrow, Rochdale, Luton and Stoke to further his first-team minutes.

Kyron Gordon

Sheffield United handed Kyron Gordon his first professional contract in 2019 after emerging from the Blades’ academy. The defender has since enjoyed loan moves to Boston United and Boreham Wood.

Joe Starbuck

Joe Starbuck left Grimsby Town for Sheffield United in 2021 after honing his trade with the Mariners. He is now on the fringes of the Blades’ first-team after loans with Kidderminster and Boston United.

Sheffield United midfielders

John Fleck

John Fleck switched Coventry for Sheffield United in 2016 after four seasons with the Sky Blues. The Scotland midfielder has now played more than 260 games for the Blades since joining in League One.

Sander Berge

Sheffield United broke their at-the-time transfer record to sign Sander Berge from Genk in January 2020 for £22m. The Norway star has since been essential at Bramall Lane as a complete midfielder.

Oliver Norwood

Brighton initially loaned Oliver Norwood to Sheffield United in August 2018. But the deal included an obligation for the Blades to buy the Northern Ireland international for £2m in January 2019. He has since played in more than 215 fixtures for the Bramall Lane natives – more than with any other club.

Ismaila Coulibaly

Sheffield United signed highly-rated Sarpsborg gem Ismaila Coulibaly in 2020 as a future first-team star. But he spent his first two seasons as a Blades talent out on loan with their sister club, Beerschot.

Tommy Doyle (on loan from Manchester City)

Manchester City agreed to send Tommy Doyle on loan to Sheffield United for the 2022/23 term. The midfielder offered the Blades a creative option from the central areas in a sporadic starting presence.

Ben Osborn

Ben Osborn joined Sheffield United for £3.5m in 2019 following protracted negotiations between the Blades and Nottingham Forest. He has since enjoyed more than 225 appearances in all competitions.

James McAtee (on loan from Manchester City)

Manchester City loaned James McAtee to Sheffield United for the 2022/23 season for his first move away from the Etihad Stadium. The Citizens product had only previously played six first-team games.

Oliver Arblaster

Sheffield United awarded Oliver Arblaster his first professional contract in 2021 after captaining their U18s. He entered the Blades’ youth setup in 2012 and is now on the fringes of their first-team squad.

Sheffield United forwards

Rhian Brewster

Sheffield United paid Liverpool a club-record £23.5m for Rhian Brewster in 2020. The striker was one of the hottest properties in England at the time. But he has struggled to live up to the price tag since.

Oli McBurnie

Oli McBurnie was Sheffield United’s club record signing in 2019 after joining from Swansea for £20m to continue a record-breaking window. The Scot has since scored over 20 goals from over 130 games.

Billy Sharp

Billy Sharp is the captain of Sheffield United’s first-team squad after taking over the armband in May 2016. The forward had returned to Bramall Lane a year earlier having started his career with the club before moves to Doncaster, Southampton, Nottingham Forest, Reading and Leeds from 2010 to 2015.

Iliman Ndiaye

Iliman Ndiaye quit Boreham Wood to join Sheffield United’s youth squad in 2019. The forward later made his senior debut in March 2021 against Leicester City and has gone on to play over 80 fixtures.

Will Osula

Sheffield United awarded Will Osula his first professional contract in 2021 after three seasons in their youth fold. The former Copenhagen U18 gem also joined Derby on loan in 2022 after his senior bow.

Daniel Jebbison

Daniel Jebbison signed his first professional contract with Sheffield United in 2021 following his first-team bow. The Canada-born England gem had previously joined Chorley on loan and has spent time with Burton Albion since. While the Blades product advanced to be a regular senior player in 2022/23.
