‘Three-way choice’: Sheffield United in battle with AC Milan and Leeds to sign England international

Sheffield United are set to battle it out with AC Milan and Leeds United over the signing of Everton defender, Ben Godfrey.

The England international could be on his way out of Everton this month as Sean Dyche looks to potentially wheel and deal where he can.

Everton have already been hit by FFP and a points deduction and could face yet more punishment, meaning some of their players could be on the move.

Godfrey is one of them, having been linked with a move to Sheffield United and Leeds this week.

However, according to The Telegraph’s Luke Edwards, AC Milan are also in the mix for the defender.

Speaking on the Transfer Gossip Daily Podcast, Edwards shared that it’s now a three way battle for God

“So there are three options there. I would choose AC Milan all day every day. But I have a feeling this will come to a straight shootout between Sheffield United and Leeds United. It’s one of those debates which you can put yourself into as a football fan. These are three very different clubs, very different parameters, expectations and situations. I think it’s a brilliant three-way choice,” Edwards said.

Sheffield United looking at different defensive options

It’s obvious there are different plates spinning here for Chris Wilder and his recruitment team.

Obviously, a new defender is on the wishlist and that’s with or without Anel Ahmedhodzic leaving.

The likes of Mason Holgate and Godfrey have now been linked from Everton, while Wolfsburg’s Sebastiaan Bornauw is the latest name to get a mention.

Quite who we will end up signing, remains to be seen.

Ben Godfrey, though, is a good player and an improvement on the current defensive options we have.

If he is the player we get over the line, then overall, Blades fans will be delighted.
