Sheffield United have some work on their hands to replace Anel Ahmedhodzic if he leaves but it looks like targets are being drawn up.

The Blades are aware of interest in the Bosnian defender, who once again skippered United yesterday in the 2-2 draw with West Ham.

The likes of Napoli and Atalanta are keen on Ahmedhodzic and according to reports, United could make a move for Everton’s Ben Godfrey as his replacement.

Godfrey is currently down the pecking order at Everton and has not quite took off like expected since making a £25m move from Norwich.

According to Calciomercato, both Sheffield United and Leeds are keen on the defender, who would be open to leaving Goodison Park to find first-team football.

A fit Ben Godfrey is a great Sheffield United signing

The key word here being ‘fit’. Godfrey has had a few problems while at Everton and if he is to sign for United then it’s imperative he is fit to play from the off.

However, if he is fit, ready to play and can show the form he’s capable of, this would be quite the signing from United.

Godfrey was a huge talent at Norwich and there’s a reason Everton paid such big money for him.

He’s quick, both with and without the ball, and comfortable in dealing with players at this level.

Replacing Ahmedhodzic is going to be a tough ask if he does leave. However, if it is to be Ben Godfrey, then Sheffield United fans can breathe a tad easier.

Lauded previously for being ‘rapid‘, Godfrey would be an upgrade on what we have now and a more than suitable replacement for the Serie A bound Bosnian.
