Sheffield United’s search for new defenders could take them to the Bundesliga, with Sebastiaan Bornauw apparently a player of interest.

Blades boss Chris Wilder is hoping to make a number of new signings before the window closes, with defence a key area for strengthening.

The future of Anel Ahmedhodzic is unclear as well and that could lead to more than one new defender arriving at the club.

And according to The Telegraph, Wolfsburg and Belgium defender Bornauw is now a target for United.

Sheffield United to consider Sebastiaan Bornauw

According to the report, Bornauw is a target for Chris Wilder as he looks to ensure he adds to his defence this week.

Along with Everton’s Mason Holgate, Bornauw is believed to be one of the top names on Wilder’s list of potential new signings.

The 24-year-old is currently over in the Bundesliga with Wolfsburg and is a regular for the German side, while he’s also won four caps for a talented Belgium team.

Of course, that means Bornauw lines up alongside the likes of Kevin De Bruyne and Romelu Lukaku at international level.

There is no mention of a fee but with money potentially coming in from the sale of Ahmedhodzic, United could be free to spend before the window closes.

United have already signed Ben Brereton-Diaz this window and are expected to complete a deal for Ivo Grbic in the coming days from Atletico Madrid.

Injuries in defence have been a problem for United all season with key men like John Egan, Chris Basham and George Baldock all having had time out.
