Sheffield United are looking to sign Bournemouth defender Chris Mepham this month as Chris Wilder ramps up his recruitment drive.

The Blades have already got a deal for Ben Brereton-Diaz over the line this month and Chris Wilder is now wanting more new signings.

United have been linked with moves for both Kasper Schmeichel and Danny Ward to strengthen the goalkeeping department, although those rumours have quietened down a touch.

And now, according to Alan Nixon, United are looking to do a deal for Bournemouth defender Mepham.

According to Nixon – via his Patreon – United are keen on landing Mepham, with Wilder hoping the promise of first-team football can tempt the Wales international to S2. It’s claimed that the Cherries could even be open to a permanent deal, if United can find the money.

United have been low on defensive numbers this season after John Egan and Chris Basham both suffered serious injuries. Wilder has also terminated the loan of Luke Thomas, further depleting defensive resources.

Sheffield United looking to sign Chris Mepham

This is the sort of smart signing that United need to be looking to do and if it can be done permanently then all the better.

Mepham not only helps us out now but if and when we go down, he’ll be a standout player at Championship level.

Bournemouth paid around £12m for Mepham back in 2019 so it remains to be seen what they’d demand for the Welshman right now.

But if United can get a permanent deal done and save the domestic loan spot for someone else, than that would be perfect.
