Sheffield United are keen on signing Kasper Schmeichel this month but fear the move could be too expensive for them.
Schmeichel is playing his football over in Belgium with Anderlecht at the moment but is thought to be open to moving back to the Premier League.
The Blades have reportedly identified Schmeichel as a target and were hoping to do business.
However, according to The Sun, a deal to bring Schmeichel into the club could now prove too expensive, forcing the club to look at other options.
Kasper Schmeichel too expensive for Sheffield United
It’s claimed in the report that United view the deal to land the Danish stopper as one of the more expensive they can do in goalkeeping terms.
However, that would contradict our previous findings and reporting, which suggests Schmeichel only actually earns around £4000-a-week in Belgium. That sort of money, of course, would be no issue for any Premier League club.

United are also thought to be keen on another Leicester-linked star, in the form of Danny Ward.
The Welsh stopper is said to be on United’s list after he dropped down the Foxes’ pecking order.
Blades boss Chris Wilder is thought to be keen on a new goalkeeper to either challenge or replace Wes Foderingham. The experienced Blades number one has also yet to sign a new deal in S2.
Decisions looming for United
If the reports on Schmeichel’s wages are correct then it would seem odd we aren’t in for him and odd that he would be deemed too expensive.
Frankly, in our opinion, it’s someone like Schmeichel or nobody at all.
The idea of signing Ward is a bizarre one anyway so if we can’t land the big Dane, then it seems pointless pursuing Ward.
Chris Wilder has some big decisions to make really. Does he use a loan on a keeper and send Luke Thomas back? Or does he stick with Wes?
Time will tell, but we’ll likely find out soon enough.
