Just when it seems all the ducks are being put in a row for Dozy Mmobuosi’s Sheffield United takeover, more news emerges to muddy the waters.

Fresh off the back of reports this morning from The Star that Mmobuosi was set to attend Sheffield United v Reading tonight, more claims are emerging on the Nigerian businessman.

This morning’s reports claimed that the takeover was getting closer. Mmobuosi is said to be confident in being ratified by the EFL and is said to have met Prince Abdullah yet again this past week.

However, BBC journalist Osasu Obayiuwana has taken to Twitter to put fresh doubt on the takeover. Taking to the social media platform this afternoon, Obayiuwana shared a number of things he’s heard about Mmobuosi, including a an apparent lack of proof of funds.

Obayiuwana has been doubtful about Mmobuosi’s intentions from the get-go. The BBC journalist has tweeted a number of times in the past already, suggesting things aren’t quite as clear-cut as they seem.

Mmobuosi himself has appeared in a number of high profile interviews to try and satisfy certain questions.

The EFL have also made a statement on the matter. Sheffield United, meanwhile, have been silent throughout.

It’s hard to know what and who to believe in this whole saga. Mmobuosi came across well in his interviews there is no doubt. But there are also a lot of unanswered questions, and fans are rightfully a bit on edge.

In the end, the EFL’s processes will hopefully weed things out. If Mmobuosi is somehow trying to pull the wool over people’s eyes a bit, then hopefully it’s found out.

At the minute though, this whole situation isn’t helping United. With promotion a very realistic possibility, distractions like this are unwelcome.

Some sort of statement from the club wouldn’t go amiss at some point either.
