Sheffield United head into deadline day tomorrow desperate to strengthen the ranks ahead of things ticking past 11pm.
The Blades have made nine signings this summer, including the latest addition of Luke Thomas from Leicester earlier today.
However, United and manager Paul Heckingbottom want even more. Another attacking option is seen as crucial, with James McAtee the ideal signing for the United boss right now.
Nothing is certain, though. United’s pursuit of McAtee relies on Manchester City’s plans.
However, speaking to the press today, Heckingbottom has said United are down the line with certain signings and that the players we are looking at are not reliant on other dominoes falling.
“We’re down the line with things. Close is a strange thing because you never know which little things are going to hold things up,” Heckingbottom said.
“So we’re down the line with things, that’s probably the best way to approach it. There could be one thing left to sort and it could take days. But we’re down the line with things. We’re not waiting on clubs making decisions. We’re in a position now where we are ready to go.”
A number of names have been linked in recent weeks as well as McAtee. Stuart McCall confirmed after the game with Lincoln last night that two or three could arrive.

If McCall’s comments on bringing three new players in is true then that would be idea. Obviously, Thomas might be one of those players.
However, McAtee and others in the final third are crucial for United now. Getting McAtee would feel massive, while adding another player – perhaps someone else with some pace – would be perfect.
Heckingbottom, as he says, will hope to get things done sharpish tomorrow. But as we know, deadline day can be chaotic so don’t be surprised if things go to the wire.
