Sheffield United are making a late play in the window to try and convince Pep Guardiola to send them James McAtee on loan again.

United used one of their domestic loans earlier today to bring in Luke Thomas from Leicester City. But there is one slot remaining and Paul Heckingbottom has been desperate to land McAtee all summer.

Adding in the final third is seen as key for United now and McAtee’s finish to last season has convinced the United boss he’s worth taking again.

And according to Alan Nixon, the Blades are making a last ditch push to convince City to send McAtee over the Pennines again.

City do not want to lose McAtee permanently and value him around the £25m mark. However, they are losing Cole Palmer to Chelsea, which has put some question marks over McAtee’s availability.

However, it’s believed City will indeed let the midfielder go to the right place. A number of other clubs are keen on McAtee, but Paul Heckingbottom hopes his eagerness to return to S2 plays intou United’s hands.

Losing Ndiaye and Berge was a bit of a nightmare for United this summer but if they can land James McAtee in the final days then the window will have been ok in the main.

McAtee was huge last season and more than proved he is up to the task. Crucially, he already understands the system and his role and could slot straight into the XI.

Heckingbottom has waited patiently on this one and it would be huge if we did get things done.

A failure to do so would sting, and obviously leave United looking at other targets down their list.
