Sheffield United are close to announcing their first January signing tonight, with a deal for Ben Brereton-Diaz now close.
The Chilean international has reportedly jetted into the UK to finalise the deal and is expected to sign on loan until the end of the season.
Brereton-Diaz scored more than 40 goals during his time with Blackburn Rovers and Chris Wilder has moved quickly to try and sign him.
And according to Sky Sports’ Tim Thornton, the Blades are now on the verge of announcing the signing.
Sheffield United ‘very, very close’ to signing Ben Brereton-Diaz
Speaking about the deal on tonight’s transfer show on Sky, Thornton told United fans that he’s been told a deal is now very close for Brereton-Diaz.
“It is (still on). It’s very very close. In fact once source has told us that he’s currently undergoing a medical. Chris Wilder was asked about it today but he wouldn’t be drawn on specific targets. But it’s my understand that it’s getting closer and if that deal does get done it will be a loan deal and Sheffield United will be hoping he can make a difference in the final third,” Thornton said.

Brereton-Diaz will be the first of what Chris Wilder hopes will be many new signings in the window.
The United boss is looking to add to a number of areas in this squad. A goalkeeper is thought to be high on his list, with Kasper Schmeichel among the stoppers mentioned.
United are also allowing players to leave the club. Benie Traore has signed for Nantes, while Luke Thomas will be allowed to move back to Leicester to free up a loan spot.
Brereton-Diaz will bring an added threat to the forward line for United and he’ll be hungry to show he can the business after a frustrating spell in Spain.
