Sydie Peck picture training with Sheffield United first-team ahead of Swansea

Sheffield United are preparing to face Swansea City this weekend and it looks like former Arsenal youngster, Sydie Peck, is pushing to be involved in some way or another.

Peck, who signed for the Blades from the Gunners back in July last year. Since then, he has played well for the under-18s and has since graduated to playing for the under-23s. Indeed, he’s had a couple of eye-catching moments, including scoring from the halfway line earlier this season.

With Peck impressing at The Lane it seems, it appears that he has been picked up on by Paul Heckingbottom and his first-team coaches too. Featuring on this week’s episode of ‘Inside Shirecliffe’ on YouTube, Peck can be seen joining in with training

Peck is seen featuring heavily in a round of keep-ball alongside Billy Sharp, Oli McBurnie and more. He’s then seen taking full part in the small-sided games later in the clip.

Whether or not United decide to use Peck this weekend, remains to be seen. However, it just goes to show that Heckingbottom is keeping close tabs on the young players at The Lane. Kyron Gordon has featured regularly this term in the squad, while Iliman Ndiaye is now an established first-team player. Daniel Jebbison is also back at The Lane.

We have featured Peck a few times on this website already. He’s caught the eye with the long-range effort above and also superb free-kick back in September.

Arsenal were said to rate Peck highly, too. It goes without saying, then, that United could have a top player on their hands here. Of course, his call into first-team training could be for a number of reasons. But it’s certainly good to see Heckingbottom giving the young players a chance. Pecl, like fellow youngster Jebbison, is still a raw teenage talent.

However, the pathway into the first-team is there for those good enough at Sheffield United. Certainly under the new ‘strategic vision’, the door is ajar. It will be interesting to see if we continue to see Peck involved in the coming weeks.
