Sheffield United look like they have missed out on another potential signing, this time in the form of James Garner, who is set to join Nottingham Forest.
The Manchester United youngster is heading back to the City Ground, according to The Athletic, after enjoying a productive spell with the Reds last season.
Garner’s move to Forest will be another blow to the Blades in what has been a miserable week overall. Ronaldo Vieira failed a medical, before United were hammered 4-0 by West Brom.
Slavisa Jokanovic was thought to be keen on bringing Garner into the club as he looks for midfielders. But a deal with Forest seems all but done, with talk of him even making his second debut next week.

The Blades boss has said he wants at least five new players. So far, only Ben Davies has arrived. Aaron Ramsdale is set to sign for Arsenal, while United have also been linked with Matty Longstaff.
Our View: Sign of things to come? We hope not
This transfer window has been hugely frustrating for United fans. Instead of bringing in players to compliment a squad that, on paper, should do well in the Championship, it’s been the opposite.
Sure, Davies’ arrival is a good addition to the team. He’ll do well, and should help improve a leaky defence. But missing out on Garner – if we were in for him obviously – is a blow.
Signings are needed, and quickly. The Vieira one has been a mess from start to finish, and other deals seem nowhere near being done. If the Blades are losing out on players to teams such as Forest, then it could be a worry.
Hopefully, we’ll be proven wrong. But until new players arrive, Blades fans will be holding out judgement on this board and its ambitions again.
