Sheffield United transfer target and Manchester United midfielder, James Garner, has rejected a new contract with the Old Trafford club.
According to The Sun, the Blades are among a clutch of teams hoping to sign the midfielder this summer. After a successful spell with Nottingham Forest last term, a loan move has been touted for the 20-year-old.
However, it is believed Manchester United will only sanction a deal for Garner to go on loan if he signs new terms. But, according to Football Insider, Garner has rejected the Red Devils’ new contract offer.
Officials at Old Trafford are thought to be keen to tie Garner down to fresh terms. He is highly-rated, and is one of a cluster of young players thought to have a chance at a first-team breakthrough.

Garner’s deal runs out in the summer next year. Manchester United do have an option to extend that deal, but want a longer contract signed before sanctioning short-term moves.
James Garner on Jokanovic’s list
The new Blades boss is looking to bring in some fresh faces in the coming days, and has confirmed today that Ronaldo Vieira should be here over the weekend. That is a boost in itself.
However, this midfield needs more than just one player adding to it. It has a serious lack of legs, creativity, and goals at the moment. John Lundstram’s departure needed filling, and Sander Berge could also still leave.
Garner was super-impressive for Nottingham Forest last term. Sitting at the base of the midfielder, the 20-year-old score four and created another three.
He could well replace Ollie Norwood, who, despite starting the opener against Birmingham, has looked ‘leggy’ for a while now.
A number of other Championship sides are thought to be keen on Garner, including Forest and Stoke City. United, then, will hope Garner can sort his future out at Old Trafford, before trying to make their move.
