Sheffield United are reportedly keen on landing Newcastle United midfielder, Matty Longstaff, who is set for a loan spell this season.
Longstaff has fallen down the pecking order a bit at St James’ Park. But he is still just 21, and has a big career ahead of him still. The Northern Echo has reported today that the Blades, along with Nottingham Forest, are keen on a loan deal for Longstaff.
The midfielder is at Newcastle with his older brother. However, 23-year-old Sean could also leave the Northeast this summer, with Everton reportedly keen.
But it is Matty who is interesting United manager Slavisa Jokanovic. The combative midfielder made just a handful of appearances for Newcastle last term. In fact, he last appeared in the PL back in January, playing 78 minutes in a 3-0 defeat to Arsenal.

The Blades are looking for midfield reinforcements before the window shuts in two weeks. Ronaldo Vieira is set to sign, while Ben Davies has arrived to sure up the defence.
Our View: Longstaff a worthwhile punt for Sheffield United
The signing of Davies has given the club a lift ahead of West Brom tomorrow. The addition of Vieira should also do the same.
In all honesty, it’s just nice to see the names we are being linked with be good, quality players. Longstaff might have struggled for a bit, but he’s a good player in his own right.
He had a memorable debut against Manchester United in 2019. That day, he bagged the winner, and Steve Bruce conceded he’d never seen a Premier League debut quite like it.
Along with the likes of James Garner and Amad Diallo, it’s clear United are looking at players in the top flight. Players who can go straight into the starting XI and make an impact.
Of course, there’ll be competition for Longstaff. But at a glance, he’d be a smart piece of business for Jokanovic.
