Sheffield United appear to have signed Manchester City youngster Tommy Doyle, if Alan Nixon’s latest comments are to be believed.
Yorkshire Live reported yesterday how United were hoping to have Doyle on the plane for Portugal. That report built on Nixon’s initial story from a week ago, which claimed the City youngster was on his way to Bramall Lane for the season.
And now, replying to fans in a Q&A on his Twitter account, Nixon has claimed that Doyle is indeed with the United squad that touched down in Portugal last night. Responding to a question about whether Doyle had signed or not, Nixon replied to say he believes he’s with the Blades squad already.

Should Doyle be announced or spotted on United’s ever-impressive social media accounts, then it will represent another good piece of business for Paul Heckingbottom.
The Blades boss got Adam Davies to sign a new two year deal last week and is expected to complete the signing of Bosnian defender, Anel Ahmedhodzic, in the coming days. The Malmo man is also expected to join up with the squad over in Portugal.
Our View: Sheffield United Getting Things Together Quickly
Whether or not the speed at which other clubs have acted has prompted something at Bramall Lane or they were just hanging tight, it seems the Blades are now kicking on with new signings.
Doyle will be a fine addition to the middle of the park while there’ll be high expectations around Ahmedhodzic, given the £3m fee being paid. Should United go on to land other linked names like Tom Lawrence and Jack Clarke, then you’d have to say it’s been a hugely successful window.
The announcements will no doubt come soon enough. At which point United fans can finally say that things are looking up for the coming season.
