The Blades secured their return to the top-flight after two seasons away as the Championship runners-up last term. Heckingbottom oversaw 28 wins and seven draws in 46 games to put 91 points on the table. Now, he will move in the market to keep Sheffield United’s first-team squad in the Premier League.
Chris Wilder confirmed 10 signings in the summer sales the last time that Sheffield United were promoted into the top-flight. Anis Slimane – Sheffield United confirmed their first signing of the summer with the 22-year-old sealing a transfer from Brondby IF. The 22-year-old joined the Blades on July 13 after signing a three-year contract. He left the Danish team after 121 games in three years and also played for Tunisia at the 2022 World Cup.
Yasser Larouci – Heckingbottom confirmed Sheffield United’s second signing of the market on July 17 as the 22-year-old joined on loan from ESTAC Troyes. The Blades’ deal for the left-back includes an option to buy in 2024. The ex-Liverpool prospect played 30 Ligue 1 games over 2022/23 with a goal and an assist.
Benie Traore – Sheffield United confirmed the signing of the 20-year-old from BK Hacken on July 18. The Blades beat off rival interest from Celtic and Rangers to secure the £4m deal and awarded the forward a four-year contract. While the Ivory Coast U23 talent offered Hacken 15 goals over 20 games during 2023.
Auston Trusty – Arsenal agreed to sell the 24-year-old to Sheffield United in a permanent £5m move on August 3. The centre-back never played for the Gunners after joining them from Colorado Rapids in 2022. He stayed at the MLS side on loan in January 2022 before spending the 22/23 season at Birmingham City.
Vinicius Souza – Sheffield United confirmed the signing of the 24-year-old from Belgian team Lommel SK on August 9. The Blades paid €12.5m (£11m), including €3.5m (£3m) in add-ons, for the midfielder. The fee was a record sum for the Pro League club. Souza left Lommel after 19 games after a loan to Espanyol.
Gustavo Hamer – Coventry City sold the 26-year-old to Sheffield United for a ‘significant’ undisclosed fee on August 11. The former Netherlands U20 midfielder helped the Sky Blues into the Championship play-off final in 2022/23. He spent three seasons at Coventry, amassing 19 goals and 24 assists in 132 games.
Tom Davies – Sheffield United confirmed the signing of the 25-year-old on August 16 after his release by Everton. The midfielder headed for Bramall Lane as a free agent after turning down a new contract offer after 14 years at Goodison Park. He joined the Toffees aged 11 and graduated to play 179 senior fixtures.
Cameron Archer – Aston Villa sold the striker to Sheffield United for £18.5m on August 27. The Blades brought the 21-year-old to Bramall Lane after he scored 11 and assisted six goals over 22 Championship games on loan with Middlesbrough earlier in 2023. Archer scored four goals in 14 games for the Villans.
Luke Thomas – Sheffield United confirmed the signing of the 22-year-old on loan from Leicester City for the 2023/24 season on August 31. The Foxes agreed to send the left-back to Bramall Lane after enduring relegation to the Championship. He played 56 Premier League games at Leicester and assisted two goals.

George Broadbent – Sheffield United confirmed on June 1 that Doncaster Rovers signed the 22-year-old for an undisclosed fee. The midfielder is a graduate from Sheffield United’s academy after joining the Blades from Manchester United in 2017. But he never made a first-team outing around his series of loans.
Jake Eastwood – Grimsby Town confirmed the signing of the 26-year-old from Sheffield United on July 4. The goalkeeper and Blades academy product secured a permanent move to the League Two team for an undisclosed fee. He joined Sheffield United back in 2006 but only advanced to make three senior outings.
Iliman Ndiaye – Marseille paid Sheffield United £20m for the 23-year-old’s permanent transfer on August 1. The Blades ‘reluctantly accepted’ the offer to allow the striker to join the team that he supported in his youth. Ndiaye was vital to the Blades’ promotion in 2022/23 with 14 goals and 11 assists across 46 games.
Sander Berge – Burnley secured a £12m transfer from Sheffield United for the 25-year-old on August 9. The Norway midfielder moved to Turf Moor on a four-year contract after three-and-a-half years at Bramall Lane. He joined the Blades from KRC Genk for a club-record £22m in January 2020 and had 109 outings.

Harry Boyes – Sheffield United confirmed that Wycombe Wanderers had signed the 21-year-old on loan for the 2023/24 season on July 13. The left-back’s move to the League One side followed spells at Forest Green Rovers and Lincoln City in 22/23. Boyes is still yet to make his first-team debut for Sheffield United.
Oliver Arblaster – Sheffield United confirmed that the 19-year-old had signed on loan for Port Vale for the 2023/24 season on July 17. It marked the central midfielder’s first professional loan after a previous spell with Bradford Park Avenue in 2021. He also featured five times for the Blades’ first-team during 2022/23.
Finley Potter – Sheffield United confirmed on July 17 that the 19-year-old had signed for National League side Barnet on loan. The centre-half returned to The Hive for the 2023/24 term after a three-month spell there earlier in 2023. He made 14 appearances with the Bees as they reached the play-off quarter-finals.
Harrison Neal – Stevenage secured a season-long loan transfer from Sheffield United for the 21-year-old on August 14. The midfielder joined Boro in League One after spending last term in League Two during a loan spell with Barrow AFC. He registered two assists over his 45 games, starting in 41, in the fourth tier.

Billy Sharp – The Blades confirmed on June 7 that the Sheffield United legend would leave Bramall Lane at the end of his contract on June 30, 2023. It marked the end of his third spell at his boyhood club after returning in 2015. He also became their captain and left after scoring 129 goals in a total of 377 matches.
Jack O’Connell – A serious knee injury effectively ended the centre-back’s career with Sheffield United in September 2020. The 29-year-old did not feature again for the Blades before his release in June 2023. He exited Bramall Lane having helped to promotions from League One and the Championship in 177 outings.
Enda Stevens – Sheffield United released the left-back at the end of his contract after six years with the club. The 33-year-old joined the Blades from Portsmouth in 2017 and helped seal two promotions, whilst amassing 202 appearances. Stoke City later moved to claim Stevens’ signature in a free transfer on July 5.
Kyron Gordon – Heckingbottom has opted to release the 21-year-old having seldom selected the centre-half. The Sheffield-born Blades product only registered 10 first-team appearances after his debut in 2021.

Tommy Doyle – Manchester City welcomed the 21-year-old back to Etihad Stadium after a strong season on loan with Sheffield United. Heckingbottom fielded the midfielder in 33 Championship games for three goals and four assists. The Star also noted in April that the Blades now consider Doyle as a top target.
Ciaran Clark – Sheffield United have not pursued a permanent transfer for the defender following his loan spell from Newcastle United. The 33-year-old will be a free agent on July 1 as his contract is due to expire.
James McAtee – Manchester City also welcomed the 20-year-old back to Etihad Stadium after his 37 Championship outings for Sheffield United. The midfielder also offered nine goals and three assists under Heckingbottom. Sheffield United even named the England U21 prospect as their Young Player of the Year.
