Sheffield United are putting plans in place to make a permanent bid to sign Manchester City midfielder, Tommy Doyle.
Doyle missed out this weekend as FA rules prevented both he and James McAtee from taking part against City. But the duo have played a key role this season.
And according to The Sheffield Star, officials at Manchester City are expecting to hear from Sheffield United if, as expected, the Blades seal promotion.
The Star claims Doyle is one of United’s main priority signings and that City are open to dialogue.
Why Chelsea FINALLY Turned A Corner.
Doyle has cemented himself in the middle of the park after initially playing second fiddle to Ollie Norwood. Indeed, it was Doyle’s goal which sealed a place at Wembley for United in the first place.
The midfielder is believed to be open to a move to Bramall Lane. After impressing and knowing City are awash with midfield talent, Doyle could well see a move to S2 as the ideal move for his career.
Lauded as an ‘excellent‘ midfielder during his time with Cardiff, Doyle has grown as the season has gone on.
Paul Heckingbottom has made no secret of his desire to sign Doyle if United do go up.
Sheffield United News View: Doyle a must sign for the Blades
If City are open to doing business and it won’t break the bank, then Tommy Doyle is a player that Sheffield United simply have to sign.
While it’s James McAtee who has been the more eye-catching in recent months, Doyle has also shown his class.
For so long, United fans thought replacing Ollie Norwood would be impossible. But Doyle appears as close as anyone to being that man.
If promotion is sealed, then Doyle has to be first on the radar. He’s more than done enough this season and City should be open to selling, given the lack of minutes he’ll get at The Etihad.
