Jayden Bogle could get a much needed rest this weekend as George Baldock might return to his usual wing-back role.
With options in central defence limited in recent weeks, Baldock has been filling in at the back.
Yet Chris Basham returned from injury at the weekend as Sheffield United lost 4-0 at Tottenham Hotspur.
Meanwhile, The Sheffield Star reports Kean Bryan could come back into the starting XI on Saturday. Bryan missed the Spurs defeat to be at the birth of his second child.
Basham played on the left of the back three at Tottenham, but could revert to the right of John Egan if the 24-year-old returns.
In turn, Baldock could then move to the right flank to replace Bogle.
Why Baldock should get the nod ahead of Bogle
The form of Bogle following a summer move from Derby County had been one of the few positives for the Blades this season.
The 20-year-old was never expected to play as much as he has in 2020/21, with 20 appearances in all competitions to date.
Which is why United fans should not be too disheartened by a recent dip in form from the defender.
Bogle scored twice in his first three games for the South Yorkshire club as his inclusion in the team coincided with an upturn in results at the start of 2021.
Whether on the right or left wing, the England Under-20 international quickly became a firm fixture.
But it’s a lot to ask of a youngster playing in their first ever Premier League campaign.
While Bogle has done well the Blades have struggled and equaled the earliest ever relegation from the division.
This is sure to have taken its toll and ahead of planning for being back in the Championship, it makes sense the give the full-back some time out of the limelight.
Bogle could be a very important player moving forwards, so it could serve well to protect him.
At the same time, Baldock can get some game time back in his preferred role.
