The ongoing situation surrounding Barcelona winger Alex Collado continues to be talked about in Spain, with Sheffield United said to still be in the mix for the youngster.
Rumours surrounding Collado and United have continued ever since he came within minutes of signing for the club on deadline day. Reports of a lack of printer, differences in terms, and lack of clarity from Collado’s side have all been cited as reasons for the deal breaking down.
And now, Mundo Deportivo are reporting that Collado remains on United’s hit list for January, albeit the Blades now face competition from a plethora of clubs. The report from MD suggest Spanish sides Almeria and Real Betis are both keen. There’s also interest from Copenhagen, Brugge, FC Andorra, and Italian side, Parma.
Certainly, it seems that there is a clamour for Alex Collado beyond just those inside Bramall Lane.
Our View: Should United move on from Alex Collado?
It’s a tough one, this. On one hand, United are desperate for another creative wide player. It’s so, so clear we need that for Jokanovic to get his system working. We need another who can operate like our other loanee, Morgan Gibbs-White.
But on the other side, you have to question the logic in continuing to pursue this deal. Unless, of course, it’s something the club feel can be done early in January.
There’re negatives to signing Collado. He’d need time to settle. He’d also need time to adjust to tactics, the country, and Slavisa’s tactics. By the time he might be up to speed, the season might be more or less done.
It would be nice to see United identify some other realistic targets. We listed five ourselves, with Collado not even included. Ultimately, it’s going to come down to whether Jokanovic really believes in Collado. If he does, then fair enough.
But there seems too many variables at play here, not to mention some of those clubs who are interested are big names in Europe.
