Sky reporter claims Arsenal are indeed interest in Aaron Ramsdale; no direct contact as yet

Sky reported Dharmesh Sheth has said that Arsenal are indeed interested in Sheffield United goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale this summer.

Ramsdale has emerged as a target for the Gunners in recent weeks, although United are said to be digging their heels in a bit. The Blades apparently want around £35m for their number one.

Since those reports of such a big fee, interest seems to have died down somewhat. However, speaking on Sky Sports News today, Sheth confirmed that the Gunners retain an interest in Ramsdale.

“Make no mistake about it, Arsenal are interested in signing a new goalkeeper this summer,” Sheth said.

7 Players Who Had A Euros To Forget

“Arsenal are interested in the Sheffield United and England stopper Aaron Ramsdale. There hasn’t been direct contact, as far as we’re aware. However, there has been initial contact between intermediaries.

“Arsenal have made their interest in Ramsdale to Sheffield United clear. Of course, a lot would depend on the transfer fee involved, given his status now in the England squad.”

As yet, sources indicate to Sheffield United News that there has been no official bid as yet from the Gunners. That would appear to be in line with Sheth’s comments here.

Waiting game

While there’s been no indication that Ramsdale wants to leave Bramall Lane, it could be a case of wait and see for United.

The club don’t want to lose their number one. But there’ll also be a fee that, if it comes in, United’s board will accept. Whether that is the £35m or so that’s been mentioned, remains to be seen.

Arsenal are powering on with their business so if a bid does come, United can expect it in the coming days really. Interest in Sander Berge seems to have dipped. Although Mikel Arteta did say more new signings will be coming soon.

As is always the case with the summer window, this one could well drag on a bit.
