Sheffield United take on Barnsley today knowing that a win is a must really to ensure a good feeling going into the international break and the playoff push very much alive.
The Blades were hard done to in midweek at Blackpool as two harsh offsides left Paul Heckingbottom’s men with just a share of the spoils. Both Sander Berge and Oli Norwood had efforts ruled out that, on another day, might have stood.
Alas, he we are again though, with Barnsley visiting Bramall Lane. And after making do with a bit-part squad and five academy players on the bench at Blackpool, it will be interesting to see if United do have any first-team squad members returning to the fold today. Jack Lester said in the press conference that he didn’t expect much in the way of returnees, but the latest under-23s selection might have hinted at otherwise.
Under-23s Selection And Sheffield United Squad For Barnsley
The 23s won 2-1 against Wigan yesterday. And in the XI were four players who have been in the first-team squad lately, including three who made the bench at Bloomfield Road. Will Osula, Femi Seriki, Nicksoen Gomis, and Oliver Arblaster all played. Indeed, Osula got himself on the scoresheet.

Their inclusion back with the 23s could indicate United have one or two bodies back for the bench at least. It could also mean we see a couple of other youngsters included. Interestingly, Joe Starbuck didn’t play, and he is a player who is on Heckingbottom’s radar and has been involved already.
In terms of first-team players due back, Oli McBurnie is the most likely. John Fleck also trained yesterday and could be included in the squad if Heckingbottom feels he is ready.
