Sheffield United are planning to get to work on new contracts and Oli McBurnie could be the first in line to get a new deal.

The Blades have a number of players coming to the end of the current deals this year. McBurnie is one of the bigger names on that list.

And according to Alan Nixon, the Blades are planning to open talks with McBurnie about a new deal at Bramall Lane.

Sheffield United want McBurnie to sign a new contract

Writing on his Patreon account this morning, Nixon claims that McBurnie is one of the players United want to tie down to a fresh contract.

It’s reported that United would like McBurnie to sign fresh terms. However, with the club unsure of whether they’ll be a Premier League club or not next term, negotiations could be tricky.

McBurnie himself has made no secret of his love for the club. That in itself could hold some weight when it comes to talks.

The United number nine has been outstanding in recent times and despite being sent off at Tottenham yesterday, caused issues throughout for the London outfit.

McBurnie complained on social media last night about his red card. He will now miss the clash with Newcastle next weekend at Bramall Lane.

Sheffield United News View: Hugely important

Not many in the list of out contract players really stand out as must keeps but Oli McBurnie is definitely one that does.

The big striker has been a revelation under Paul Heckingbottom. Since breaking his scoring duck at Luton last year, McBurnie has gone from strength to strength.

He is considered a real leader in the group now and getting him tied down to a new deal feels hugely important.

Of all the players set to run down their contract, McBurnie is definitely a priority in terms of a new one.
