Sheffield United striker Oli McBurnie has slammed the referees after he was sent off at Tottenham today.

McBurnie saw red late in the game after asking the referee why Brennan Johnson hadn’t been penalised for pulling shirts.

However, McBurnie was the one who was punished and after Paul Heckingbottom reacted furiously to the referee’s performance, McBurnie showed his dismay online.

Taking to his social media account on X, the often outspoken McBurnie wasted no time in showing his annoyance at being sent off today.

McBurnie, like his manager, questioned the referee and it seems that the man in the middle has once again been the big talking point in a Premier League game.

McBurnie will now miss next week’s clash with Newcastle United in what is a bitter blow to the Blades’ chances of picking up a first three points of the season.

Tottenham, meanwhile, remain unbeaten and sit just two points behind Manchester City.

We won’t defend United for time wasting and the conceding goals late in the day, but this issue with referees has been ongoing all season.

We’ve seen it in every single game. Referees dictating to players what they can and cannot do down to the most minor of details. Then, when big clubs have players throwing themselves on the floor and conning officials, nothing gets said.

Heckingbottom and McBurnie have a point really. Hecky will probably get a touchline ban now and McBurnie missing Newcastle is a massive blow.
