Sheffield United issue John Fleck update after Reading nightmare

Sheffield United have issued an official communication on the status of midfielder John Fleck. And it appears to be good news for the Scot.

Fleck was removed from the game at Reading last night after collapsing in the middle of the pitch with nobody around him. Luckily, paramedics and staff of both teams swooped in quickly to help Fleck and he was conscious when he left the stadium for a hospital in Berkshire.

And now the club have issued an official statement on Fleck, confirming the midfielder will return to Sheffield today and putting a lot of people’s minds at rest.

“Sheffield United is grateful to report that John Fleck has been discharged from hospital and will return to Sheffield today (Wednesday). He was conscious when he was taken to the Royal Berkshire Hospital. And was communicative with club and medical personnel, as well as his family,” an official statement read.

“After comprehensive medical examinations and staying in hospital overnight for observation, he has been allowed home, where United medical staff will continue to monitor him closely. United and John Fleck would like to thank all who assisted at a stressful time last night. And also everyone for their supportive messages.”

Positive News For John Fleck

This is the news all Blades fans wanted to read this morning. The result was a big one last night,. But Fleck’s well-being took priority.

It’s also great news for his family. It’s easy to forget they’ll have been sat watching on from home and will have been extremely worried. We saw in the summer with Christian Eriksen the effect these situations can have.

Hopefully, Fleck can now spend some time recovering and getting himself back to fitness. Football will likely take a backseat for the time being. With the focus surely on just ensuring the Blades star is ok to live his life.
