Sheffield United are looking to strengthen the squad ahead of Friday’s clash with Nottingham Forest and are apparently in talks with Tom Davies.

The midfielder has been released by Everton and is currently without a club. Davies, who is still only 25, has made more than 170 appearances for the Toffees. However, he was released this summer and remains a free-agent.

According to Alan Nixon, United are in talks to try and sign Davies. As things stand, the deal is not close as there are problems around his wage demands.

Writing on his Patreon, Nixon has claimed that United are looking to do more business before the window shuts.

Indeed, Paul Heckingbottom has said he’d like at least one in before Forest on Friday. Both Gus Hamer and Vinicious Souza are expected to get their first starts for United in that game.

Davies, meanwhile, would be another welcome addition. Previously lauded as a player who can be ‘outstanding‘ on his day, Davies would bring experience and quality to the middle of the park for United.

There will be some worry around why Davies hasn’t found himself a new club yet. Some will argue that if he was that good then surely he’d have been picked up by now.

However, football works in strange ways at times and maybe the time is right for the Blades to take a punt and reap some rewards.

It was clear as day yesterday that this United squad needs help. Tom Davies would bring that help. The midfield is shaping up quite nicely now but another addition of Premier League quality would do no harm.

If Davies can be got over the line, then for nothing, it would be smart business by the club.
