Sheffield United are sweating on the fitness of record signing, Rhian Brewster, after the striker returned early from England under-21 action.

Brewster put in a fine performance for the Young Lions as he looked to get his match sharpness and fitness back ahead of this weekend’s game with West Ham at Bramall Lane.

However, Brewster also suffered a few heavy challenges during the game and now, as a precaution, has returned to Shirecliffe.

Yorkshire Live have confirmed the news, although no update has been given on his condition. It is hoped that Brewster is simply back home to nurse the knock and will be ready to go against the Hammers.

United are also sweating on the fitness of John Egan, while Sander Berge could also miss out thanks to Covid-19 restrictions imposed from Norway.

We can’t afford anymore missing

When your luck is out, it really is out, isn’t it? United have suffered with injuries all season and this is just the icing on the cake.

Of course, Brewster might just be back early to get the necessary rest and make sure he is fine for the weekend. That’s the best situation we can hope for here and hopefully Chris Wilder can shed some light on the matter later in the week.

The worry over Berge continues, however. There has been no update from the club or Norwegian authorities, meaning the Blades may well be without the key midfielder.
