Sheffield United are one of three Premier League clubs interested in signing AZ Alkmaar goalkeeper Marco Bizot – reports Sky Sports.
Crystal Palace and newly promoted Fulham are also keen on Bizot, who impressed for Alkmaar in the Eredivisie last season.
The 29-year-old kept an impressive 24 clean sheets in 38 matches in all competitions in 2019/20. Bizot helped AZ to second in the top flight of Dutch football, before the campaign was ended early due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
His side still finished in the Champions League qualification places and clearly the performances of the Dutchman have attracted attention.
In La Liga, Atletico Madrid, Sevilla and Valencia are also thought to be keeping tabs on Bizot.
Is the signing of Marco Bizot likely?
United are certainly in the market for a new ‘keeper ahead of the new season. The return of Dean Henderson for a third successive year on loan remains uncertain.
The latest reports suggest it’s unlikely, with Manchester United about to hand Henderson a new £100,000-a-week contract. They would want the Blades to pay that in full to sign the 23-year-old – something which they could not afford.
Manager Chris Wilder and his recruitment team have been looking at other options as a result. The most likely alternative appears to be Aaron Ramsdale.
The South Yorkshire side have already had a £12m bid for the Bournemouth stopper rejected. However, they are ready to return with an improved £15m offer.
Ramsdale is a former Blade, having left the club for Dorset in 2016, and Wilder is still clearly a fan.
There are also ongoing rumours that there is interest in Trabzonspor’s Ugurcan Cakir. Apparently the Blades have offered £13.5m for Cakir, but the Turkish club are holding out for £18m.
Bizot is now another name being considered as the Blades prepare for life with Henderson.
