Sheffield United could be preparing to walk away from a deal to bring Dean Henderson back to Bramall Lane, with reports from the Sun claiming Man United want all his wages covering.
The report claims the Red Devils are set to give Henderson a new deal worth around £100k-a-week. It also suggests they may be willing to send Henderson back out again.
However, in a bitter blow to Chris Wilder and the Blades, officials at Old Trafford are set to demand that all of Henderson’s new bumper salary be covered. That, of course, would be well out of United’s reach.
The news will be disappointing for Wilder but he has irons in the fire already it seems. Aaron Ramsdale and Ugurcan Cakir are being continually linked, while he has already signed Wes Foderingham.
So, while Henderson may not return to Bramall Lane based on those latest reports, it appears the United boss is not resting on his laurels.
Not a chance we pay that, it’s simply obscene – Our View
Dean Henderson is good. In fact, he’s very good. And he probably deserves a massive contract at Old Trafford given his talent and performance levels.
But does that mean we should blow our budget just to get him back? Absolutely not.
It’s simply unaffordable and unreasonable for the Blades to pay that sort of wage out. It would upset the balance of the whole group for a start, while also setting a precedent that we might well be willing to pay big chunks out.
It would obviously be great to see Henderson back. But we get the feeling that after two seasons as a Blade, it’s time to say goodbye to the England man for good.
