Reported Sheffield United target, Jack Hendry, could well end up joining Leeds United this summer instead of the Blades.
Hendry is thought to be have been on the Blades’ radar for some time now.
Still a Celtic player, he spent last season with KV Oostende. Coincidentally, the Belgian side are managed by one-time United managerial target, Alexander Blessin.
We covered just a few months back how Oostende were looking to buy Hendry for just £2m. Their plan was to complete that deal, and then immediately sell him on at a profit.
And going along the same lines, 90Min once again claim that Oostende are continuing on that train of thought. This time, however, it appears it is Leeds who could step in for Hendry.
SAKA, ANTONY AND 10 PREMIER LEAGUE STARS HEADING TO THEIR FIRST WORLD CUP
Marcelo Bielsa’s side are said to be on lookout for fresh recruits this summer. Hendry, at 26, clearly fits the bill.
For whatever reason, Hendry has struggled to settle with Celtic. The Bhoys are keen to offload him it seems, even it means only getting a small fee.
The Blades, then, are unlikely to be able to land Hendry if Leeds do indeed step into the mix. The lure of Premier League football and money will, no doubt, ensure Henry is swayed towards West Yorkshire.
Sheffield United News View: United need a defender but there’ll be others as well as Jack Hendry available
While it’s a shame to see someone maybe slipping away, it’s also not the end of the world when it comes to Hendry.
United do need a new defender this summer. If anything, just to add strength and depth to the ranks ahead of a tough Championship season.
However, Hendry wouldn’t be a first-choice. Especially if Egan, JoC, and Basham are all fit. And in reality, that’s probably going to be the case for any incoming defenders.
With Kean Bryan offered new terms and youngsters like Ky Gordon and Sam Graham coming through, missing out on Jack Hendry won’t sting too much for now.
