Reported Sheffield United managerial target, Alexander Blessin, has won the Manager of the Year award over in Belgium.

Blessin’s recogntion comes in the wake of leading Oostende to the verge of European football. This, after the Belgian club were firmly in the relegation places a little over 12 months ago.

The former RB Leipzig coach has been garnering quite the reputation in Europe. He has become one of the names on the now famed ‘shortlist’ at Bramall Lane.

However, a move to United seems unlikely. Brexit red-tape is said to be preventing Blessin from getting the appropriate work permit needed.

Per a report from the Sheffield Star, Blessin was delighted to win the award over in Belgium.

What it could mean for his future, however, remains to be seen. Since Blessin was first mentioned as a contender for the Blades job, Slavisa Jokanovic seems to have overtaken him as the number one choice.

West Brom are also said to be keen on Jokanovic, who is looking for a return to England.

Sheffield United News View: Blessin clearly a talented coach and this cements it further

Most Sheffield United fans would probably says Jokanovic is the number one target but beyond that, Blessin intrigues.

It’s easy to think of Norwich manager, Daniel Farke, when you look at how Blessin works. He plays expansive football and can clearly get the very best out of his players.

If United can’t get Jokanovic, then Blessin would be our choice here at SUN.
