Sheffield United could have to look elsewhere for an assistant manager, with Fulham said to be keen on Javier Pereira.
The Cottagers are looking for a new manager it seems. The Athletic have reported that Scott Parker is due to leave, with Bournemouth his likely destination.
We reported a few weeks back how Pereira could join up with new Blades boss Slavisa Jokanovic. The pair have worked together before, notably, with Fulham at Craven Cottage.
But FootballLeagueWorld are now reporting that Pereira is being lined up by Fulham to replace Parker. Their report states the Cottagers are keen on the 55-year-old, with his links to the club a natural assumption to make.
United and Jokanovic are yet to finalise the backroom team. Although, as reported by the Sheffield Star, Paul Mitchell is expected to remain in his recruitment role.
Jokanovic is expected to bring a few staff with him as a minimum.
The departure of Chris Wilder has also seen the likes of Matt Prestridge leave. Alan Knill remains on the books for now, but will also leave eventually you’d think.
The aforementioned Pereira is currently managing Henan Jianye over in the Chinese Super League. He has enjoyed spells with a number of Spanish clubs before linking with Jokanovic at Watford, Fulham, and Maccabi.
Sheffield United News View: Jokanovic has some big calls to make, including Javier Pereira
It’s vital that Jokanovic gets the backroom team at United. You’d imagine he will go for a mix of trusted lieutenants, as well as some already at the club.
Striking that balance could be key. United do need shaking up a bit. But at the same time, it’s nice to have people around who know the ethos of the Blades.
Whether Pereira comes or not remains to be seen. But the fact other clubs are wanting him as actual manager, suggests his reputation is sky high.
