According to the Sun this weekend, Burnley will target Sheffield United stopper Aaron Ramsdale, if they sell Nick Pope.
Ramsdale has emerged as one of the shining lights at Bramall Lane this season, despite enduring a nightmare start to his career back at the Blades.
His rocky form at the beginning of the season coincided with the miserable run of form United had. And while things haven’t picked up massively for the Blades in terms of results, Ramsdale has shown notable improvements.
Burnley are said to want Ramsdale should they sell England stopper Nick Pope. The Clarets are looking for £45m for the 29-year-old and believe they can get Ramsdale for around half of that sum.
The Blades paid £18m for ‘Rambo’ back in the summer of 2020. The stopper has suffered consecutive relegations from the Premier League. But at just 22, he is widely regarded as a top quality stopper of the future.
Burnley want Aaron Ramsdale
Ramsdale was always going to be one of the United players Premier League clubs came sniffing around. He really has been good in recent months, putting to bed a lot of the doubts we had.
He isn’t the finished article by any means but you can see why Burnley might want him. His age is a big bonus, plus he’s already played two full season as PL level.
It’s a tricky one for United. If they get their money back or more then they could be tempted and may go with Wes Foderingham or a cheaper replacement next season.
On the flipside, Ramsdale was bought for the long-term, so it would sting a bit if we were to sell one of our better players this season.
