Aaron Ramsdale is proving to be one of the biggest positives for Sheffield United this season.
Despite yet another defeat in the Premier League this weekend – this time losing 2-1 at Leeds United – Ramsdale once again impressed.
The scoreline could have been a lot more in Leeds’ favour had it not been for a number of fine saves from the goalkeeper.
Caretaker manager Paul Heckingbottom praised Ramsdale after the loss at Elland Road.
“He’s been really impressive last two or three months. He’s really impressed me last three or four weeks as well,” Heckingbottom told BBC Radio Sheffield.
“We know what type of goalkeeper he is. He’s great to have behind the back lads and allows us to maybe take a few more risk to try and score those goals which have been hard to come by this season.”
Aaron Ramsdale becoming a key Sheffield United player
Ramsdale has worked hard to get to this position, after a difficult start to 2020/21 following a return to Bramall Lane from Bournemouth.
The 22-year-old was initially criticised for his performances – including on this site – as the Blades faltered.
Yet while results have only slightly improved since the turn of the year, the form of Ramsdale has been impressive.
The England Under-21 international admitted the criticism was tough to take, but has responded brilliantly to it.
With him also pledging his commitment to the South Yorkshire side, despite their imminent return to the Championship, the future looks bright between the posts.
Many fans of the Blades and other teams, as well as other prominent figures in football, have also praised Ramsdale online.
