Paul Heckingbottom has been speaking to the press ahead of Sheffield United v Wolves and has had some good praise for his squad.

The Blades boss was in bullish mood again despite not winning a game this season. Heckingbottom knows this clash with Wolves this weekend is a good chance to finally get a win, despite Gary O’Neill’s men being in good form.

Injury problems mean that Heckingbottom’s selections have been more or less dictated to him. As part of that, Cameron Archer has been tasked with leading the line for United with Oli McBurnie injured. Rhian Brewster is back fit, although his minutes must be managed.

And speaking ahead of the Wolves games, Paul Heckingbottom has said he’s been really happy with how Archer has reacted.

Heckingbottom praises Cameron Archer ahead of Wolves

Speaking to the press on United’s official YouTube channel, Heckingbottom spoke about Archer and admitted to being impressed with the youngster.

“Cameron’s been leading the line now after not having a big pre-season, very very well. I’ve been really pleased with how he’s approached what we’re asking him to do. But yeah, we tried to get as many attacking players on the pitch v Arsenal but we didn’t deliver. We need to deliver this weekend,” Heckingbottom said.

Archer is expected to start against Wolves today and will be desperate to get himself another goal after such an impressive debut v Everton a few months back.

The 21-year-old joined United in a complex deal from Aston Villa. If United go down, he is expected to return to the Midlands.

Sheffield United News View: Cameron Archer can be the man

It’s been a miserable season for Sheffield United and at the moment, nobody is really coming out of it with any credit.

However, there is no doubt that Cameron Archer has the ability in the locker to be able to change things a bit for United.

He has the ability to score goals from anywhere and we saw that against Everton. The problem the Blades have is that there’s been so many injuries, we simply cannot get into any sort of flow or get Archer into positions to score those goals.

Today is a massive game for United that will define the season and probably, Heckingbottom’s future.

Archer, then, could be the difference.
