Prince Abdullah wants to sell Sheffield United within four weeks with Dozy Mmobuosi out of running

Sheffield United owner Prince Abdullah has confirmed that he still intends on selling the club, even after the Blades were promoted.

With all eyes focussed on a potential takeover from Nigerian businessman Dozy Mmobuosi, it now seems United and the Prince are moving in another direction. Reports this week have claimed Abdullah and Mmobuosi’s relationship had soured.

And speaking to TalkSPORT this morning, Prince Abdullah confirmed that the deal with Mmobuosi is now unlikely but that he still hopes to have a new buyer in the door soon.

“This is my intention, but nothing is guaranteed. I’m not going to sell to just anybody. I care about who owns the club next. The most important decision in any club is not hiring the right manager or the right players, it starts from the top. If the owner is a bad owner it can drive everything eventually to the ground. My intention is to sell but it’s not guaranteed yet,” Abdullah told TalkSPORT this morning.

“There are other parties interested. I would rather do something in the next four weeks or do nothing, but these things never go as expected. There are always some complications here and there.”

Sheffield United News View: Next few weeks crucial for the Blades and Heckingbottom

The Prince said in midweek that there’d be a plan regardless of he is the owner or not. But if his eyes are still on selling up then it needs to be resolved quickly.

Mmobuosi’s attempt has rumbled on since December. United cannot afford for that to happen again so whoever the next buyer is needs to be credible and be able to prove it quickly.

Paul Heckingbottom needs to know what he is working with, both in terms of transfer budgets, new contracts, and any other internal appointments he wants to make.

This is a crucial period for United. Prince Abdullah has done well in the main as owner. Let’s hope he can find someone to take it on with deeper pockets but similar ideas.
