Right on queue, it looks like the pundits who Chris Wilder was aiming a dig at this weekend have backed his point about Burnley and Luton.
Wilder came out swinging after United drew at Bournemouth this weekend. The Blades boss insisted that there is a ‘narrative’ around how bad this Sheffield United side are, but everyone seems to be waiting for Burnley to ‘kick into gear’ while Luton are ‘going for Europe’.
The comments caused a bit of a stir in the world of social media but for most Blades fans, it felt like something that needed saying.
United have been slated by pundits this season. Jamie Carragher labelled the Blades as a disgrace against Arsenal, while Chris Sutton has also lambasted our lack of quality.
And as if to back Wilder’s point up from the weekend, Gary Lineker and Micah Richards have done exactly what Wilder was talking about.
Chris Wilder’s Burnley point comes true
Speaking on their Rest Is Football podcast about Burnley after drawing 2-2 with West Ham, both Lineker and Richards said they felt sorry for Vincent Kompany’s side.
“Poor old Burnley can’t win a game can they. 2-0 up at half-time and last minute equaliser from Danny Ings. It’s a cruel game,” Lineker said.
“Poor Burnley, I mean, come on, there’s a little bit of sympathy for Burnley now. Come on. They just can’t get it over the line,” Richards added.

Blades boss has a point
While Lineker and Richards were being quite jovial about this and it’s not something to be taken too seriously, you do wonder why Burnley get away with it so much.
Like United, they have been pretty woeful all season. The big difference is they spent north of £100m, including pinching one of our best players, and yet seem immune to criticism.
Chris Wilder, then, probably has a point really. He’s basically said what a lot of people think in Sheffield and that’s why, in the main, he gets backed from the stands.
While both teams will go down, there’ll be an element of pride if United can beat out the Clarets and finish above them somehow.
