Sheffield United play Stoke City this weekend amidst a mounting injury crisis compounded by knocks to Sander Berge and George Baldock this week.

Paul Heckingbottom has some big old calls to make for the trip to the Potters. Defeat would mean it’s a winless start to October for the Blades boss, who has just been named the September manager of the month.

Of course, with Baldock potentially out, United’s defensive options are reduced. Anel Ahmedhodzic could come back now he’s back training. But interestingly, it seems another young defender could be in line to make the bus to Stoke if the latest photos are to be read into.

United released a full team picture from Shirecliffe with the whole squad accepting that manager of the month award. And among the players seen in the squad was teenager defender, Sai Sachdev.

Sachdev must have been added to the squad to bolster numbers much like Andre Brooks and Sydie Peck have done in recent weeks. Of course, Brooks has been on the bench himself without coming on just yet.

Sachdev was recently called up to the England under-18s squad after impressing for the United youth sides. It seems, then, that Heckingbottom has another young player he has high hopes for at Shirecliffe.

It’s so good to see these young players getting involved with the first-team at Sheffield United, it really is.

Sachdev is yet another off the production line it seems. And while he might not be included this weekend it shows once more how Hecky is willing to put these young players in the squad and get them involved.

The future looks bright at Bramall Lane and over the course of the season, it will be interesting to see if Heckingbottom does indeed integrate some of these young players into the actual starting XI.
