Spotted: What Oli McBurnie did to the Middlesbrough fans after United's fourth goal

Well, what threatened to be the nightmare night for Sheffield United against their former manager turned into dreamland, as the Blades ran out 4-1 winners against Chris Wilder’s Middlesbrough.

Goals from Sander Berge, Billy Sharp, Jack Robinson, and another goal of the season contender from Morgan Gibbs-White ensured a memorable night at Bramall Lane. In fairness, too, it could have been even more as Paul Heckingbottom’s side simply overwhelmed ‘Boro.

The only minor gripe on the night was Wes Foderingham’s unfortunate slip and the fact a few others couldn’t get themselves on the scoresheet. One of those players who’d have been desperate to score was United’s number nine, Oli McBurnie.

Signed by Wilder when United were promoted, the big striker has struggled over the past 12 months. He did come on last night, but the game was dead by then and he had little chance to really get going. In fact, McBurnie’s best contribution of the night probably came while he was warming up!

Oli McBurnie Has Last Laugh Over Middlesbrough Fans

McBurnie is always a target for the opposition fans. To be honest, he usually loves it and could be seen grinning as the ‘Boro fans chanted ‘he’s got no watch and he’s on the bench’, a reference to McBurnie’s social media post about some stolen items recently.

But McBurnie, ever the showman, had the last laugh as he was hilariously spotted and recorded on Twitter by a Middlesbrough fan celebrating as Morgan Gibbs-White flicked in United’s fourth.

Away fans always love winding up the home players. But on this occasion, McBurnie and United definitely got the last laugh.

The Blades take on Coventry City this weekend as they remain in the hunt to catch Bournemouth in 2nd.
