'He's all over the pitch': Kevin Gage loves what Oli Norwood is doing for Sheffield United this season

SUTV pundit and former Sheffield United player, Kevin Gage, has been raving about the Blades and paid tribute to Oli Norwood in doing so.

Norwood has been an ever-present for the Blades and remains the constant in the engine room for United. Since being signed by Chris Wilder, the former Northern Ireland international has been vital for the Blades. Like so many at United, he did have a small dip under former boss Slavisa Jokanovic.

But now, under the guidance of Paul Heckingbottom, Norwood is playing some of the best football of his career and Kevin Gage was keen to point out the midfielder’s efforts off the ball as well.

“I’ve mentioned this in commentary and said it before but Oliver Norwood, for all his passing range and his ability on the ball, he’s throwing himself into tackles. He’s getting his foot in and winning headers. He’s all over the pitch and we’re doing that everywhere,” Gage said on SUTV.

Norwood has had his critics from some at Bramall Lane over the years but his quality is clear. And like so many have also pointed out, this Sheffield United team are a better team with Norwood playing.

Our View: Norwood One Of United’s Best Ever

And that is an honest view. Oli Norwood is simply brilliant at what he does and in terms of value for money and impact on a team, there haven’t been many better than Norwood. Certainly not in this writer’s life-time anyway.

This Blades side simply ticks over better when Norwood is on the field. He switches play better than anyone else, his passing range is outrageous and as we’ve seen this season, he can score the spectacular as well.

Gage’s comments on Norwood’s tackling are also well-informed. This is an aspect he seems to have really added in more this season, and it’s paying dividends for everyone on the pitch.
