Kevin Gage sings praises of 'warrior' John Egan after Sheffield United v Watford

Sheffield United won one of their biggest games of the season this weekend as they saw off Watford at Bramall Lane.

A goal late in the second half was enough for the Blades, who defender resolutely throughout before riding their luck late on to seal all three points.

In fairness, United probably did just about enough to win it. Jayden Bogle had a goal ruled out for a tight offside call while Oli McBurnie also put one in before the game was brought back.

In defence, United were excellent. The back three all made big tackles at times. And after praising Jack Robinson, former United man Kevin Gage also found time to sing the praises of John Egan.

“He’s our leader. He’s our warrior isn’t he. He captains the side sometimes. He leads by example. Gets his head in the way of things, defends well. He didn’t have the best game last week and I’m sure he’s aware of that,” Gage said on SUTV.

“But he had a point to prove and he certainly came up trumps today. He marshalled the troops around him and put in a proper defensive display.”

Sheffield United News View: John Egan is Mr Reliable for the Blades

There were some out there on social media last week making outlandish claims about John Egan. Well those people will be silent now.

Egan was superb against Watford. He has been ever since he signed and Egan has rarely dropped below a 7/10 performance in red and white.

Every so often, he delivers a performance that reminds everyone why he’s considered one of the best in the league.

Against Watford, he delivered one of those performances. If Egan can continue to defend like he did against the Hornets, then the Blades’ promotion hopes increase significantly.
