Kevin Gage praises Jack Robinson after Sheffield United v Watford

Sheffield United edged past Watford at Bramall Lane yesterday to go seven points clear of third placed Middlesbrough in the Championship.

An own goal from Ryan Porteous was enough for United to win out. The Watford defender deflected Oli McBurnie’s header over the line in front of the Kop to send Bramall Lane into raptures.

But on the whole, it was a close affair between two good sides. In the end, the Blades had to dig deep, defend well, and rely on a small bit of luck to get over line.

And speaking on SUTV about the game, former United player Kevin Gage singled out Jack Robinson for praise.

“We defended fantastically well. Robinson won some fantastic headers on the edge of the box. He’s galloped ten yards at times just to win the header, taking responsibility just to clear his lines,”, Gage said.

Robinson had kept his place in the starting XI despite Ciaran Clark being close to a full return. The former Nottingham Forest man has become a key player under Paul Heckingbottom.

Sheffield United News View: Robinson keeps on impressing for the Blades

Most Blades fans accept that there might be an error or two from Jack Robinson over the season. But you can never ever question his desire and the intensity he brings to the table.

There’s been games where he hasn’t played where United seem to lack a bit of something. It’s hard to put a finger on what that exactly is, but Robinson does seem to up the ante a bit when he plays.

He is a leader in this team and as Gage says, he won crucial headers in big moments yesterday.

Robinson will have a big part to play in the run in. There’ll be games where Clark might get the nod. But for now, the shirt is Robinson’s to lose.
