Sheffield United look set to appoint Chris Wilder as manager and he’s in line for a surprising contract as well.

The Blades are finally calling time on Paul Heckingbottom’s tenure following the miserable 5-0 loss at Burnley over the weekend.

Prince Abdullah is believed to have been willing to give Heckingbottom time but the manner of the performance at Turf Moor has convinced the owner to make his move.

And now, with Wilder looking like being the man to replace Heckingbottom, TalkSPORT’s Alex Crook has shared how long the contract is expected to be for Wilder.

Chris Wilder to get 18-month contract

Taking to social media to break the news, Crook has confirmed that the Blades are set to hand Wilder an 18-month deal at the club.

Sheffield United going back in the hope of a better future

This is a surprising one to read about. Many of us expected Wilder back but we all thought it would be a six month deal to the end of the season and then a case of take it from there.

18 months seems to suggest the board will give Wilder the summer and next season to try and get us back up as well if we do go down.

It seems an odd move, really.

However, from Wilder’s side, you can also see why he might have asked for longer and a bit more security in terms of his contract and money.

A new owner could change everything anyway if they do come in and Wilder will need to impress if he’s to get any longer.
