John Lundstram finally brought an end to his Sheffield United career yesterday as he penned a three-year deal in Scotland with Rangers.

The midfielder has signed for Steven Gerrard’s men on a free-transfer after leaving United. It comes after a poor season for Lundstram, in which he refused to sign a new contract and saw his performances tail off a bit too.

His attitude and performances divided opinion last term. However, he’ll be remembered fondly for his opening season in the Premier League. He hit five goals that year, as United finished ninth in the top-flight.

And while there was no departing message from Lundstram to the United fans, he did quickly take to Instagram to show his delight at signing for Rangers.

And following on from Oli McBurnie’s message of support for him on Twitter, a number of other current and former teammates were on hand to congratulate Lundstram as well.

What’s been said

While Blades fans fired their warnings to Rangers fans on social media, Lundstram won’t be too worried. A number of players seemed to be delighted for him, including current United striker, Rhian Brewster.

A sad end

Unfortunately for Lundstram, it’s probable that he’ll be booed if he ever does return to Bramall Lane.

That’s a real shame, to be honest. He was good in that first season and should be remembered for it. Sadly, though, his last 12 months will be what stick in people’s heads.

Further, there was no message when he left the club. Yet he was quick to laud his move to Rangers. He doesn’t use his social media channels much, but a nice message the way of United wouldn’t have gone amiss.

Alas, everyone can now move on at least. But rather than leave a Blades legend or with any sort of legacy, Lundstram’s entire situation leaves a sour taste on the mouth.
