It’s safe to say that David McGoldrick has left a huge impression at Sheffield United, with the striker set to leave this summer after four years at the club.
United have decided against giving McGoldrick a new contract. In fairness to the club, it’s probably the right decision, with the striker now into his 30s and suffering a season ending injury this time around.
However, that hasn’t stopped an outpouring of emotion from players and fans alike, who were quick to take to social media last night to sing the praises of McGoldrick. Didzy himself had posted a message on Instagram, while the club posted a nice tribute video with some of his finest moments pulled together.
And over on Twitter, there were some nice words from skipper Billy Sharp, who was also joined by Soccer Saturday host and Sky Sports legend, Jeff Stelling.
Sheffield United Players Pay Tribute To David McGoldrick
It’s pretty telling that at the same time as McGoldrick leaving, so too are Luke Freeman and Lys Mousset. The difference in reaction though has been quite striking. We’ve seen nothing from Freeman or Moose, and no player has mentioned it either.
Meanwhile, over on Instagram, a number of Blades players reacted to McGoldrick’s message, and it’s so blatantly obvious what he means to this Sheffield United squad.
