Sheffield United manager, Slavisa Jokanovic, will not be joined by former number two, Javier Pereira, despite reports suggesting otherwise.
Blades fans assumed Pereira was going to join the new United boss in the dugout last week. An update from the 55-year-old himself on Twitter confirmed he is free to work in the UK again.
However, it appears that Jokanovic won’t be adding Pereira to his new team of backroom staff. That’s according to Yorkshire Live, who suggest that the Spaniard is not on the new Blades boss’ list of new arrivals.
Pereira was previously with Jokanovic both at Fulham and Watford. They enjoyed success, and with Alan Knill still out of the picture, Pereira has been mentioned.
But that’s not the case, according to YL’s Nathan Hemmingham.
Answering some fan questions for a Q&A for Yorks Live, Hemmingham confirmed that Jokanovic has got his initial staff sorted. Although Pereira is not one of them.
“Two will be in next week, but he is also hoping he can bring at least one more in. One will start on Monday, and the other will start on Tuesday. They are currently isolating in Sheffield ahead of their start dates,” he said.
“He did not want to name them, but they will be announced next week. I do know that Javier Pereira, his main man at Fulham, Watford and Tel Aviv and linked with joining him at Bramall Lane, is not one of those two.”
Jokanovic has already made it clear in his opening interviews and comments that he is looking for promotion. Getting the key staff onboard, then, is likely to be crucial for him.
United fans will be intrigued come tomorrow. Hopefully, the club releases a nice welcome package for the two joining this week.
