Sheffield United are among a host of clubs including Chelsea, Tottenham, and Southampton who like the look of Fleetwood Town defender, James Hill. And the Blades believe they might have an ace up their sleeve which will see them land the teenager.
TeamTalk have reported this week how United are hoping to tempt Hill to Bramall Lane. Paul Heckingbottom is hoping to add a couple of players in key positions in January, while a few squad players could also leave.
Defence is one area Heckingbottom is known to want depth in. Beyond the first-choice back three of Egan, Basham, and Davies, the Blades lack cover. Hill, then, could be the ideal player to come in, put pressure on, and learn his trade in the background at the same time.
And according to the Sheffield Star, the Blades are hoping a familiar face will enable them to get the deal done.
Sheffield United Hoping For Help With James Hill
Despite the number of Premier League clubs being interested, the Sheffield Star claim that the Blades are hoping that Hill’s father, Matt, can point him towards Bramall Lane.

Hill spent a few seasons with United, making over 100 appearances after arriving from Blackpool. And the Star claims that the Blades hope to use that tie – among other things – to convince James Hill to move to Sheffield.
Among the tools in United’s armoury is said to be Paul Heckingbottom’s work with younger players. The club are hoping talent across the country look favourably at how ‘Hecky’ has done with the United under-23s. Of course, in the last 12 months we’ve seen the likes of Femi Seriki, Iliman Ndiaye, and Daniel Jebbison all break into the first-team picture.
Clubs like Chelsea, Tottenham, and Southampton will be able to offer Hill the better financial package. But United, with plenty to boast about over the years in terms of youth development, are hoping to tempt him in other ways.
