Sheffield United are competing with a host of clubs, including Chelsea, Tottenham, Liverpool and Barcelona, for the signature of highly-rated Fleetwood Town defender, James Hill.

According to TeamTalk, a cluster of clubs – including the Blades – are hoping to snap Hill up in January. The talented teenager is out of contract in the summer. However, Fleetwood are hoping to make a quick buck on him now after conceding the defender will go anyway.

TeamTalk claims it is Southampton, however, who are leading the chase. The Saints are poised to make a bid for the 19-year-old, while the rest are casting admiring glances for now.

Hill, who plays as a centre-back, has appeared 15 times in all competitions for Fleetwood Town this year. He is currently out injured, however. Hill was part of a Fleetwood squad last season that featured three former Blades in the form of Paul Coutts, Mark Duffy, and Ched Evans. And while they’ve moved on, United might be hoping for a kind word or two from their former stars into the ear of Hill.

Level Of Interest Shows Why Sheffield United Want James Hill

You aren’t being watched by the cream of the crop in the Premier League – and Europe – without having something about you. That in itself tells you all you need to know about how good James Hill could be.

In all likelihood, Sheffield United will miss out here. Premier League football – and money – is a big lure. Further, it’s not like we can offer him immediate first-team football, albeit we are light in terms of defensive cover.

The good news is that United are at least involved. Just the fact we are in the conversation with such giants of the game also keen, shows we are looking in the right places for talent. So while Hill might slip the net, it bodes well for future recruitment.
