Sheffield United target Dean Henderson is joining up with Manchester United on their pre-season tour of Singapore.

Red Devils manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer confirmed to the Manchester Evening News that Henderson will meet up with the squad ahead of their friendly with Inter Milan.

The goalkeeper was previously told to get a Chinese work permit so he could also face Tottenham Hotspur in Shanghai on July 25.

Henderson was granted extra time off to go on holiday this summer after representing England at the European Under-21 Championships.

Which is why the Blades should not worry about this latest development. Henderson is still expected to rejoin the South Yorkshire club on loan ahead of next season.

However, the deal is perhaps not quite as close as it was first hoped.

The Sheffield Star reports that the Blades only agreed to re-sign the 22-year-old in principle. A move that depends on Henderson first putting pen to paper on a new long-term contract at Old Trafford.

Once that is signed, the Red Devils then want to secure the future of current number one David de Gea. At the moment, De Gea is out of contract next summer. A new deal is expected to be signed, but until that happens Henderson will be retained as cover.

The good news for those at Bramall Lane is that the England Under-21 international does want to return. Henderson has made it clear to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer that unless he is first choice at Old Trafford, he wants to come back to South Yorkshire.

Blades manager Chris Wilder is also confident that the loan will be completed.

“Dean wants to come,” Wilder told the Sheffield Star. “I believe Manchester United, in discussions, are very happy with what we’ve been able to do in terms of giving him a platform to improve as a goalkeeper.”
